Ceiling Lighting
Ceiling lights can take many forms. In this section we will just discuss lighting
fixtures that mount to the ceiling. This includes chandeliers, pendants, ceiling
fans and basic ceiling fixtures.
Chandeliers - The two most common places to find a chandelier are in the
dining room and the foyer of a house. This doesn't mean you can't use them in
other places. I have seen them used very effectively in kitchens, family rooms
and even bedrooms. One common question that comes up often is how high
over the table do I hang my chandelier. As a general rule about 68" from the
floor to the bottom of the fixture works well. The diagram below is an example.
Another common question with chandeliers is how high to hang the fixture in a
foyer. In many homes today there is a 2 story foyer with a large front window. In
this case you will want to hang the fixture so it can be seen from a point you
deem important in front of the house. One good way to do this is make a
cardboard cutout about the size of the chandelier. Attach this to a stick tall
enough to reach the approximate area where it is going. Now with someone
standing outside you can easily adjust the height to where you would like it
before hanging the actual fixture.
Chandelier selection is really a matter of choice and style and size to fit your
particular needs. To view a selection of chandeliers

Pendant lighting  - is another type of ceiling light. The most common
application is over an island in the kitchen. A pendant light is normally one
single light that hangs from a single point on the ceiling. They can hang on a
rod, cord or chain depending on the style. The same general height rules apply
but as always your preference is what matters most. For a selection of pendant
